Eco Friendly Sustainable Construction Options
September 30, 2020 – HOUSTON, TEXAS

Next Wednesday, October 7th Hemp will make another splash in Texas, this time concentrating on construction which represents a $33 Billion dollar industry in the state. Texas Hemp Harvesters Association (TXHHA) and US Hemp Building Association (USHBA) are ensuring Texas doesn’t miss out on the progressive hemp building and construction market. Hemp building materials are praised for many safety and eco-friendly characteristics such as fire resistance, air purification, moisture control, and structural integrity.

Texas is perfectly positioned to lead the US in hemp building innovations, however basic infrastructure is still needed to support manufacturing of any hemp-based product. The biggest advantage the Lone Star State has is it’s long history of large scale ag production which ensures companies wishing to produce construction materials will have a reliable input source. Anxious to get their hands on locally grown hemp, colleges, universities and research companies around the state are ramping up programs aimed at identifying blends that can be used for plastic injection molding, woven and non-woven materials, animal feed, and a host of other applications.

A joint webinar, hosted by the two non-profit associations, takes place Wednesday October 7th from 5:00 – 6:30 pm CST. Anyone can sign up to attend, open registration for the event is $15 and members of either association attend for free. Attendees will get connected with successful companies and products including hempcrete, flooring, cabinetry and insulation. Construction industry professionals will get caught up on standards, specifications and more. Register for the webinar today at!

TXHHA is a (501c 6) non-profit committed to providing insightful, actionable education, building responsible supply chains, and developing the industrial market for Texas. Find out more at

Animal Welfare Groups Launch “Cruelty Isn’t OK” Campaign

Campaign calls for enforcement of laws against cockfighting and live-lure training, urges new state policy

The rule of law matters, and it’s important that all law enforcement agencies treat animal cruelty crimes with the seriousness they warrant.”

— Christine Dorchak, president of GREY2K USA

OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA, USA, September 30, 2020 / — Cruelty Isn't OK, a statewide campaign to end the abuse of captive big cats, illegal cockfighting, and live-lure greyhound training, was launched today by a coalition of key animal protection groups and advocates, including former Attorney General Drew Edmondson.

In recent months, these problems have come to light following detailed investigations by Animal Wellness Action (AWA), the Animal Wellness Foundation (AWF) and GREY2K USA Worldwide.

“Oklahoma is a family-friendly state with a growing economy,” said Edmondson, co-chair of the National Law Enforcement Council of AWA and AWF. “We don’t want this good reputation tarred by the presence of persistent animal cruelty in our state.”

The organizations are calling for the creation of a statewide task force to examine improved enforcement of state and federal laws in Oklahoma and policies to fill gaps in the law, particularly when it comes to private ownership of big cats and other potentially dangerous exotic wild animals.

As part of its public awareness efforts, Cruelty Isn’t OK today launched an advertising campaign featuring full-page advertisements in Oklahoma newspapers. A copy of the first advertisement is available here.

Additionally today, supplementing its original investigation into illegal cockfighting, AWA and AWF released letters, signed by Edmondson, to the U.S. Attorneys for the Western and Northern Districts of Oklahoma, detailing yet more illegal animal trafficking for cockfighting based in the Sooner State.  In May, the groups wrote to U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Oklahoma to investigate allegations of ongoing trafficking of birds to Guam for cockfighting and for illegal animal fighting activities.

Edmondson, on behalf of AWA and AWF, alleges that “Oklahoma is indisputably the cockfighting capital of the United States.” Edmondson previously wrote to the District Attorneys for Cherokee, Haskell and LeFlore counties to investigate the allegations as well and to bring charges as appropriate. Since the investigative results were handed over to law enforcement in May, there’s been no apparent action taken.

The anti-greyhound racing group GREY2K USA this summer released a multi-state investigation, centered in Oklahoma, into live-lure training in greyhound racing. In live-lure training, dog trainers teach greyhounds to kill rabbits and other small animals to instill a bloodlust in the animals. Oklahoma bans live-lure training, and the greyhound racing industry has long denied that anyone in the industry uses live lures to prepare greyhounds for racing.

“Our investigation discovered a deputy sheriff involved in illegal animal cruelty,” noted Christine Dorchak, president of GREY2K USA.  “The rule of law matters, and it’s important that all law enforcement agencies treat animal cruelty crimes with the seriousness they warrant.”

More than a month ago, the U.S. Department of Agriculture suspended the exhibitor’s license of Jeff Lowe, who operates the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park in Garvin County.  Lowe took over for Joe “Joe Exotic” Maldonado, after he began serving a prison sentence for activities that included illegal killing of tigers. Big Cat Rescue, a Florida-based animal welfare group, takes control of the park later this week.

“Oklahoma is one of a handful of states without restrictions on private ownership of tigers, lions and other big cats, and that’s precisely why Joe Maldonado and others have treated Oklahoma as a commercial playground and a stage for their menageries,” said Wayne Pacelle, president of Animal Wellness Action. “Oklahoma was one of the last hold-outs on illegal cockfighting, and it’s one of the last hold-outs on exotic animal ownership.  Keeping 350-pound wild carnivores in backyards or basements is a prescription for mayhem.”

While cockfighting is illegal, it’s clear that state and federal laws are not being enforced. Through public records requests to the Guam Department of Agriculture, AWF and AWA obtained nearly 2,500 pages of avian shipping records dated November 2016 to September 2019. These records detail approximately 750 shipments of birds from more than a dozen states to Guam.

Oklahoma cockfighters were the top shippers to Guam in the nation. Since then, AWA and AWF have reviewed 13 on-line videos, released by a Philippines-based broadcaster called BNTV, featuring Oklahoma cockfighters. BNTV broadcasters visited the gamecock farms throughout the United States, on its “U.S. Gamefowl Breeder Tour,” with the cockfighters essentially marketing their fighting birds to the Philippines, which is the site of the World Slasher Derby and other cockfighting events that attract participants from across the globe.

During his time as Oklahoma Attorney General, Edmondson defended the state’s anti-cockfighting law from constitutional challenges brought by cockfighters. In Edmondson v. Pearce, the Oklahoma Supreme Court determined in a unanimous ruling that the anti-cockfighting law represents a proper exercise of authority and that cockfighting and related activities are forbidden in the state. Numerous federal courts have upheld the federal anti-animal fighting law as constitutional.

Animal Wellness Action is a Washington, D.C.-based 501(c)(4) organization with a mission of helping animals by promoting legal standards forbidding cruelty. We champion causes that alleviate the suffering of companion animals, farm animals, and wildlife. We advocate for policies to stop dogfighting and cockfighting and other forms of malicious cruelty and to confront factory farming and other systemic forms of animal exploitation. To prevent cruelty, we promote enacting good public policies and we work to enforce those policies. To enact good laws, we must elect good lawmakers, and that’s why we remind voters which candidates care about our issues and which ones don’t. We believe helping animals helps us all.

The Animal Wellness Foundation is a Los Angeles-based private charitable organization with a mission of helping animals by making veterinary care available to everyone with a pet, regardless of economic ability. We organize rescue efforts and medical services for dogs and cats in need and help homeless pets find a loving caregiver. We are advocates for getting veterinarians to the front lines of the animal welfare movement; promoting responsible pet ownership; and vaccinating animals against infectious diseases such as distemper. We also support policies that prevent animal cruelty and that alleviate suffering. We believe helping animals helps us all.

GREY2K USA Worldwide is the largest greyhound protection organization in the United States with more than 250,000 supporters.  As a non-profit organization, the group promotes the adoption of ex-racers and works to pass laws to end the cruelty of dog racing around the world. Devastating Forest Fires Ravage the West

Northwest Advanced BioFuels Forest Fires United States

How Can We Help Forest Fires From Further Devastating the Western United States?

Devastating forest fires have ravaged the western United States. In just this year alone, according to numbers tallied by the National Interagency Fire Center, 87 large wildland fires have burned over 4.7 million acres in California, Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

How can we stop these fires? The answer to that question is, “we can help slow them down or keep them from happening at all” simply by paying attention to the facts, not theory.

The United States has over 750 million acres of forest land. Over half of the forests are privately owned by large corporations such as Hancock Forestry Management, Weyerhaeuser, Sierra Pacific Industries and Rayonier Inc.

Most of these privately owned forests are certified and undergo annual inspections that verify responsible forest management practices are being followed. Sustainable forests in the USA are certified under programs such as the:
American Tree Farm System (ATFS)
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), and
Sustainable Forestry Institute (SFI)

These programs develop healthy forest guidelines that are deeply rooted in science, ecology and principles of sustainability that create healthy forests by the removal of diseased and dead trees and by replanting new trees during all forest harvesting periods to ensure proper growth and ecological balance. So how come there are so many fires raging in the west and northwest right now? That is a question everyone is asking, especially politicians.

Sustainable Fuel Resources
Northwest Advanced Bio-Fuels, LLC, (“NWABF”), is developing a Sustainable Aviation Fuel, (“SAF”), Project in Grays Harbor, WA. Shipments of this renewable jet fuel will begin in approximately 4 years. Delta Air Lines, buyer of the SAF, and many of the leading Timber Companies in the Northwest are involved in the NWABF Project. Our EPC, Black & Veatch, will design and engineer the entire Project.

NWABF plans to benefit the local Quinault Indian Nation tremendously. The Quinault Nation has agreed in principal to be a supplier of some of the woody biomass to the Project which would come from their forest residuals. This can increase the Nation’s revenues realized from the sale of forestry debris from their approximately 200,000 acres of forests near the Project. Their Forestry Management Company could help us manage our process. Since the Project will produce several hundreds of jobs during construction, the Quinault Indian Nation could benefit with replacement jobs after their sawmill closed and enjoy economic gain.

The NWABF project provides a fantastic resource for the disposition of forest debris, treetops, dead fallen trees, sawdust, etc., all of which are a byproduct of the environment or the local timber industry! We are a blessing to these Timber Companies, as they cannot bury wood to get rid of it and burning the residuals has been banned in most states of the United States. Harmful gases are emitted from pulp and dead wood on the ground. This practice is terribly bad for the environment. Also, it provides a perfect “kindling” for fires! When lightning strikes, it is sitting there ready to burn.

When a tree dies and falls over, it blocks throughways for tree thinning, it rots and creates a fire hazard, animal habitats are harmed or destroyed, and most importantly the water table is affected (a huge problem in states like AZ). Fallen wood keeps the rainfall from penetrating the ground and entering the water table which, I have learned from lobbyists in AZ.

What about Forestry Management?
Maybe if we look at the Forestry Management practices in these states that are having all these fires, we can find out the true facts about some of the causes of a lot of these fires. We should also look at the Federal Government (which owns huge amounts of forest acreage). There are $millions of federal dollars spent on maintaining the forests and a lot of this money goes to the states for “Maintenance and Forestry Management”. How well do they do in Forestry Management?

As we are all aware, there are agencies and organizations that try to prevent any and all tree removal. They even try to object to removing dead and fallen trees. And they claim our industry “cuts down entire forests of trees to provide feedstock for biomass gasifiers”. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Reforestation for the Future

We take the Timber Industry’s leftovers, their ‘scraps’ as we know it. And, with proper Forestry Management, these trees all get replanted. This practice is called REFORESTATION! It is an industry term! What we want to know, is do they get replanted by States that remove dead trees, slash, beetle kill, treetops, bark, etc.? Answer: Not if the State won’t allow their removal in the first place!

There is no environmental benefit to slash and dead trees lying on the ground rotting and going into the ground. On the contrary, it can be very harmful to the environment, which is all verifiable. The NARA Report, a study conducted a few years ago that took 4 years to complete and cost $40 million, managed by Washington State University and Director Michael Wolcott, PhD and Regents Professor, verifies the voluminous amount of wood annually that is available for removal in the Northwest and it’s a lot more than we need for our Project.

What Can We Do?
I think we can all agree, “Global Warming” does have a long-term effect on the planet. That EFFECT has taken place over hundreds of years, not during just one term, in my opinion, of one President or another. Do not blame the former or past administrations. Fix it now, I say! The actual effects on the forests from Climate Change or Global Warming are not really quantified and opinion on this matter runs rampantly differently from expert to expert. Let us just deal with the facts we can verify.

Therefore, I would challenge everyone who reads this to consider all the issues causing these horribly catastrophic forest fires. The reason? We all have many friends evacuating or losing their homes, losing a way of life that used to be precious to them and the wildlife where this is happening. People are losing jobs, etc. We can do something about a large portion of the cause of these terribly devastating fires. We must deal with the dead or diseased trees, slash from Timber operations, treetops, bark, sawdust, etc.

We cannot stop lighting strikes and we will never stop some less than intelligent campers from not putting out their campfires or smoking in the forests, etc.

We can clear our forests and manage them better. When lighting does strike, hopefully our brave Hotshots and Smokejumpers who put their lives on the line will have a fighting chance to get through the forests and to the source of the problem, clearing fire breaks, getting relief to people, saving animals. Then maybe finally, they can achieve containment and prevent loss of life and more property! Do you know any firefighters who fight forest fires? Some of the best people there are!

Jason Freskos Explains How Yoga Can Assist One Spiritually

Jason Freskos

STINSON BEACH, CA, UNITED STATES, September 30, 2020 / — Too often, people tell Jason Freskos that they don't have time to get into yoga or that yoga does not fit into their business-oriented life. Or that they feel that yoga is not a serious-enough practice for them. To this, Jason Freskos chuckles and tries to explain not only how well yoga can fit into the businessperson's life, but also how adding it can enhance one spiritually.

Here in San Francisco, the art and practice of yoga is most often tied to athleticism and getting fit — and of course, this is an important benefit of yoga. But it is not the only benefit. For Jason Freskos, the true beauty of yoga is not what it does to your body but rather what it can offer for your soul. For Jason Freskos and the many people who go to him for yoga, the answer to what makes yoga so unique and so special is its connection to spirituality.

Jason Freskos is a registered yoga teacher and has helped hundreds of practitioners find greater ease and a better spiritual connection via the art. But to understand how one first must first understand spirituality. In this context, spiritual means transcending beyond those dimensions in which we exist. It also means improving one's mental and emotional condition so as they can connect with others and the world around themselves in a deeper, more empathetic manner.

What it doesn't mean is a religion, or at least not in the way in which religion is traditionally taught in the West. When you roll out the yoga mat and follow a yogi in a structured class, you do not have to ascribe to any specific faith or believe in a certain brand of worship. In fact, one of the things that first drew Jason Freskos to yoga was how beautifully yoga united people of varying faiths and cultural backgrounds. You can be an avowed atheist who puts no stock in their cultural background and still find that regular application of yoga principles and techniques can improve yourself spiritually.

Arguably the important way the practice of yoga assists one spiritually is by cultivating awareness. As Jason Freskos explains, today's world is so busy and we have so many things to do, that our minds become chaotic and we become so entrenched with things that we must do, racing from one place to the next. While this may be good in the short-term, this type of constant being on can lead us astray and hurt us. Jason Freskos notes that he's seen quite a few brilliant people stumble in their careers due to over-exertion.

What yoga can teach us is how to take a time out and how to sit in silence with oneself. Sitting in silence while meditating on a pose enables us to become more aware of ourselves, what we're experiencing, and how to accept the current, the present moment. It's in these moments, Jason Freskos explains, that we can find the path forward to greater spirituality and a sense of self-worth.

ClimateCare ranked Best Project Developer in Voluntary Carbon Market

Best Project Developer in Voluntary Carbon Market

This year it’s really heartening to see the industry we work with – our clients and competitors, acknowledging our leading work in project development by also voting us Best Project Developer Overall.”

— Vaughan Lindsay, CEO at ClimateCare

OXFORD , UNITED KINGDOM , September 30, 2020 / — This year’s Environmental Finance Voluntary Carbon Market Survey – an industry voted award series – ranks ClimateCare as the Best Project Developer Overall. ClimateCare also won Best Project Developer Public Health and Best Wholesaler.

Since it was founded in 1997 ClimateCare has led the way in developing what it calls Climate+Care projects, which are designed up front to tackle climate change and improve people’s lives. It has developed new project methodologies, piloted innovative projects and helped to scale them. The team lead authored the Gold Standard methodologies which first allowed carbon finance for clean cooking and safe water projects. As a result, hundreds of these projects are now operational and making a real difference for people and the planet.

As just one example, The Gyapa™ Cookstove project, a partnership between ClimateCare and Relief International, has cut over four million tonnes of CO2 over 10 years and saved families across Ghana more than $165 million on fuel – savings that families use for school fees, healthier food, and medicine

As a result of its leadership in this area, since 2013, when the award was first established, ClimateCare has consecutively ranked as the world’s number one Project Developer – Public Health.

“This year it’s really heartening to see the industry we work with – our clients and competitors, acknowledging our leading work in project development by also voting us Best Project Developer Overall. It’s a reflection of our scale and the fact that as demand for carbon projects increases – the market is actively seeking projects that meet multiple UN Global Goals as standard – something that is at the heart of our unique Climate+Care approach.” Says Vaughan Lindsay, CEO at ClimateCare.

As well as a leading project developer – the rankings list ClimateCare as the Best Wholesaler. “The ClimateCare team prides itself on its relationship with buyers and finding the right projects to meet their requirements” says Elizabeth Williams, Director of Portfolio Management for ClimateCare. “We are acknowledged as the leader in charismatic project development and this in turn means that companies across the market come to us when they are looking for the type of high quality, multiple impact projects we specialise in. Increasingly they are also turning to us to fulfil all their requirements as they appreciate our market access and ability to provide quality projects and portfolios across the scale and breadth of the market. ”.

The team at ClimateCare continue to push boundaries in the creation and growth of projects that cut carbon, protect the environment and improve lives. The team are currently working on new methodologies, including one that will allow carbon finance to support electric cooking projects through Gold Standard for the first time. And, it continues to expand its project work around the world – including in the UK. Exciting new developments include the use of mycorrhizal fungi to restore degraded land, planting saplings to stabilise soil, reduce flooding and erosion risk, and provide an income for the landowners when they are harvested, and a project that saves on average 14 trees for every house built in Malawi, by removing the need to kiln fire bricks.

With the transition to online, Cannabis Industrial Marketplace has dedicated all of our resources to hosting the most comprehensive cannabusiness expo, open to cannabis professionals across the globe, and we would like to invite Europe’s cannabusiness professionals to join us.

Unlike other events, Cannabis Industrial Marketplace’s events (Virtual and in-person) target qualified attendees while staying hyper-focused on the business.
We don’t offer free entry to boost our numbers, create a lot of worthless buzz, and dilute the value.

Our events are 2 days, not never ending over-dressed zoom meetings, and they are held for businesses, during business hours to promote genuine connections between professionals.

Following a similar model to our in-person expo, our virtual model will have educational seminars, networking opportunities, A WORLD WIDE AUDIENCE, and a comprehensive navigable show floor with 1 on 1 live video feeds and booth previews. Our exhibitor booths are much more than an alphabetical listing of partners.

Additionally the Virtual Expo will have new features exclusive to a virtual event, that will be of particular value in the current business climate:

Global Connections
1-on-1 Chats with Other Participants
Round Table Topic Based Discussions
Advocacy Sponsor Booths and Sessions

NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, September 30, 2020 / — Empire State Development and Cornell University’s Center for Regional Economic Advancement today announced that the startup company, led by co-founders Raja Ramachandran and Philip Harris, has been chosen among a group of 20 finalists for the 2020 Grow-NY food and beverage innovation and agriculture technology business challenge. The company, based in New York, N.Y., is one of the leading forces in introducing and deploying the Blockchain of Food. Begun in 2017, has been recognized by Forbes as “25 Most Innovative Ag-Tech Startups, Ag Funder’s Most Innovative Supply Chain Start Up, and most recently Rabobank’s award for top 5 Emerging Leadership in Innovation. founders will now join 19 other finalists from across the world in working over the next two months with mentors and competition organizers in Upstate New York to compete for $3 million in startup funding, including a $1 million grand prize. founders will pitch their company to a panel of live judges at the Grow-NY Food and Ag Summit which will be held virtually on Nov. 17 and 18. The Summit is free and registration is now open for the public.

Grow-NY is an unprecedented business competition focused on enhancing the emerging food and agriculture innovation cluster currently present in the Finger Lakes, Central New York and Southern Tier regions. In just the first year of a three-year commitment, Grow-NY attracted 199 completed applications around the world. This year, as we embark on the second installment, more than 264 startups applied from 27 countries including Israel, Germany, and Argentina. In the U.S., 26 states were represented, including 98 entries from New York. 29% of applicants included a female founder and 32% included a founder from an underrepresented minority group.

Empire State Development is providing funding for the Grow-NY competition through its Upstate Revitalization Initiative, with administration support from Cornell University’s Center for Regional Economic Advancement. The winner will be required to conduct business in the Grow-NY region which features counties within Central NY, the Finger Lakes and the Southern Tier of New York State where there are vibrant farmlands as well as several major urban centers, including Rochester, Syracuse, Ithaca and Binghamton. The winning business will help contribute to job growth, connect with local industry partners and contribute to a thriving economy.

The finalists were determined by a panel of 30 independent judges comprising the spectrum of food, beverage and agriculture businesses and academics. Grow-NY will award prize money to seven winners this November, all payable in stages, based on business milestones. This includes the $1 million top prize, two $500,000 prizes and four smaller amounts. Tax incentives will also be included. leaders believe they have developed something unique in their industry. “We see tremendous value and opportunity to work alongside the Grow NY ecosystem, with the shared goal of solidifying New York state as one of the best communities in the world for food and agriculture innovation. It has only been two weeks, but we have already witnessed the strength, commitment and passion from everyone surrounding the effort. We are truly humbled to be given such an opportunity,” said Raja Ramachandran, CEO of

“We decided to double down on the relationships that we have with incubators, accelerators, university programs, and food and ag organizations across the globe to cast a wide net of awareness around the competition. As a result, we’ve seen a strong turnout, including many international entrepreneurs,” said Jenn Smith, program director of Cornell University’s Center for Regional Economic Advancement. “Today’s finalists should be very proud to have been selected from this highly competitive competition and we’re excited about their potential. We know this program can provide a much-needed ladder to to help startups climb high, creating new, high-quality jobs at a time when they are urgently needed. We’re eager to see which companies will win the prize money this year and hit the ground running.”

The Grow-NY Food and Ag Summit attracted more than 900 attendees last year and, to align with safety guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the event will be held virtually this year on Nov. 17 and 18. Finalists will still have the opportunity to pitch their business plans and answer questions from a live panel of judges. Attendees can also experience a symposium featuring a series of panels discussing the biggest issues facing the food and agriculture industry.

“In transforming this year’s Grow-NY Food and Ag Summit into a virtual, we have intentionally created multiple networking opportunities where growers, start-ups, established businesses and influencers can connect,” said Smith. “Food, beverage and agriculture innovation in the Grow-NY region is thriving and we are excited to draw new companies into the ecosystem by creating a welcoming environment for strong partnerships.”
