S. Korea Bird Flu Outbreak Surges to 48 Cases
Health authorities verified the latest contamination at a duck facility in Seongju, situated approximately 215 kilometers (133.5 miles) southeast of Seoul, the Central Disaster Management Headquarters disclosed.
Officials have quarantined the infected premises, initiated poultry elimination procedures, and opened probes into the disease spread, a Seoul-based news agency reported.
A temporary operational freeze affecting associated facilities and agricultural transport vehicles has been imposed across impacted areas.
The administration intends to conduct comprehensive examinations and deploy disease-prevention protocols at layer chicken and duck operations by Feb. 20.
H5N1 influenza, commonly known as bird flu, primarily spreads among infected poultry but it can occasionally be transmitted to humans. Symptoms may include fever, cough, nasal discharge, and severe respiratory complications.
